Pet Day preparations .. Part 1

ummmmm .. whats this .. me baking .. holy batman

Nope .. on the "Preparations for Pet Day" notice was a little note .. OPTIONAL - your children can make and decorate 3 biscuits .. now I was kind of ignoring this ..la la la la la ...until the boys raced home on Friday all ready to make them after a wee chat from the teacher to the class about if you'd like you can do this ... arghhh ..

Ok so biscuit dough - well the stuff that was left (found an easy recipe which is at the end of this post) .. add playdoh cutter shapes - yeh I know .. but I don't have cookie ones .. and they do the trick

Trawl the cupboards for left over dyes from cakes, sprinkles and bribe lollies .. and yay we're ready for fun (minus Cam hiding under the chair coz he can !)

Michael's and Cam's

Some of the end results .. yes before Cam was even near finished he started scoffing them - lol!

Taste testing .. of course ..

..remind me not to get the icing and things ready before hand .. as the boys were PACING .. while the cookie were in the oven .. and don't talk to me about the 20mins "rest" the dough needed in the fridge .. heh heh .. but I survived .. and not one lot of fighting between them .. yahoo!

.. and no I didn't have an urge to 'help' them .. well Ok just a hankering once or twice when the icing was all over the place .. but resisted the urge .. and stepped away from the bench .. and coolly watched as they had fun ..

.. Mark one up for being the "good" mummy today .. heh heh .. (what am I talking about I'm great everyday - ahem - next !)

Next step  .. finding rocks for Pet Rocks .. and veges and fruit for animals/people ... and leaves and flowers for a vaseline saucer (wtf!) .... what happened to sand!

Aha .. found the rocks .. handy having a river on the farm huh?

Tomorrow at school the boys are making their creations .. which is great because a) its done at school, b) because its a surprise when you go and see it in the hall and c) it's done at school .. heh heh ..

Right here is the recipe that is so quick and easy .. I like that kind of thing .. esp. when it comes to cooking ..

Basic biscuit dough

Preparation Time - 15 minutes
Cooking Time - 15 minutes
Makes - 40 (it does .. ummm whoops)
Ingredients
  • 250g butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup icing sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, at room temperature
  • 2 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 1/2 cup cornflour
Method
  1. Using an electric hand mixer, beat butter, sugar and vanilla until pale and creamy. Add egg. Beat until well combined.
  2. Sift flour and cornflour over butter mixture. Mix well. Divide in half. Press each half into a disc. Wrap each disc in baking paper. Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 160°C. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Roll each disc out between 2 sheets of baking paper to 3mm-thick.
  4. Using letter-shaped biscuit cutters, cut letters out of dough. Place onto trays. Roll leftover dough together and repeat. Refrigerate biscuits until firm. Bake for 15 minutes or until light golden. Stand on trays for 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
Notes & tips
  • Hint: Dip cookie cutters into flour in between cutting each biscuit to prevent dough from sticking.
